Record of the Members Meeting 18th March 2008
PRESENT
The President welcomed members and guests.
Birthday Posies were presented to Pat Dainton, Jan Gregory, Pat Row and Maureen O’Connor.
THE RECORD of the Members’ Meeting on 19th February 2008 was taken as read and agreed.
BUSINESS & REMINDERS:
1. The President reminded members that a small number of this year’s subscriptions were still due. Any guests attending their second meeting may now be in a position to decide whether or not to join. Membership books are still available for those who have not yet collected them.
2. S.E.F.W.I. A.G.M.: The President reminded members that this took place on March 4th at Trinity Park. Rendlesham were well represented. There were excellent speakers in Jackie Cheer (Deputy Chief Constable of Suffolk) and Paul Whittaker O.B.E., a profoundly deaf musician.
3. Pam and Jenny had attended Orford & Sudbourne’s birthday party while Karen Smith and Jane Canham went to Ufford’s. Both had been excellent events.
4. The President thanked those who had volunteered to provide food or help with the arrangements for the Spring Group Meeting at Bromeswell on Friday, March 28th. She requested that food should be delivered to her by 4 p.m. at the latest on the day, and that those helping at the hall should be there by 5 p.m. The speaker for the event will be Mrs Deborah Preston, drawing from her experience as housekeeper at a top London hotel. The President invited members who would like to attend the meeting to make themselves known as the deadline for tickets was approaching.
CORRESPONDENCE:
In the Secretary’s absence, Caroline Lisle dealt with this item.
1. SEFWI are offering additional courses in Basic Food Hygiene at Foundation and Refresher level, to be run in May.
2. SEFWI are planning their 2010 calendar and would like to invite photographs from members on the theme of “Suffolk Scenes”.
3. Members were reminded that they can obtain free entry to the Suffolk Spring Garden Show being held over the Easter weekend upon production of this year’s Membership Card.
4. The East of England Lace & Craft Fair is being held at Peterborough on 11th May.
5. The Secretary has details of events being held to raise funds for St. Elizabeth’s Hospice including a Ladies’ Driving Challenge at Bentwaters Park in June and a range of garden Open Days.
6. Orford & Sudbourne W.I. are organising a day trip to Norwich on Thursday, November 13th. The coach will leave Sudbourne Village Hall at 8.45 a.m. and leave Norwich to return at 4 p.m. Details on the Reminders sheet circulated at the meeting.
7. SEFWI’s Quiz this year will take place on Monday, 30th June, 7.30 p.m. at Needham Market. A team of 4 will be required.
8. SEFWI’s Resolutions Conference will be on Saturday 26th April at Rushmere Village Hall - the booking form is on the back of this month’s SEFWI News.
9. Raffle tickets are available for the National Federation raffle - Judith has these if anyone is interested.
OUTINGS & EVENTS:
Ann Beadle reminded members of the outing to Otley Hall on Friday 11th April.
The Scrabble Club meets 19th March at 2 p.m. in the room at the back of the church - £1 payable at the door. New members welcome.
SPEAKER
The President introduced the speaker, Mr Colin Hopper who gave us a most interesting talk on Papercraft.
Ann Horn thanked him on behalf of all those present.
THE NEXT MEETING will take place on April 15th, when the speaker will come from the Driving Standards Agency.
